August 21, 2017: (Oro Valley) Massage Therapy for Domestic Violence Survivors
Domestic Violence affects an average of ten million men and women per year. Did you know that one in four women and one in seven men will be victims of domestic violence in their lifetime? Risk factors may change across cultural and socioeconomic lines, but no segment of the population is immune to domestic violence. This course provides a clinical definition of domestic violence, along with, types of abuse and trauma. We will also look at what warning signs are associated with this special population and the appropriate communication to use with this client. Next, we will look at benefits and contraindications when working with this group and discuss the concept of duty to warn. Last, we will refresh on scope of practice and boundaries so that you may provide therapeutic massage within your professional parameters. With much gratitude, I am grateful to have been able to work with, Amy M. Clark, LCSW, who specializes in working with this special population. I have had the pleasure in co-developing this advanced level course for the massage and bodywork field. Your tuition includes our co-authored manual; Working with Domestic Violence Survivors as a Massage Therapist.
